The UK Recruitment Sector Contributed £36 Billion to the economy in 2020.
The Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) said the industry employed 110,000 people in more than 30,000 businesses in 2020, which was slightly lower than the previous year.
The industry’s contribution of almost £36 billion pounds was down by 11.5 percent from the previous year but REC says this was a positive, considering the challenges of last year.

Although these results are down by 11.5% from 2019 when you take into account the pandemic, IR35 reforms and Brexit all hitting during 2020 this is an impressive performance and testament to the UK Recruitment industry’s resilience.

With a huge recovery and surge of activity in 2021 it will be very interesting reading to see if the UK market has regained that 11.5% during the last year – I suspect it has and then some.
We go into 2022 with the UK industry thriving, if facing a shortage of staff and candidates. Could 2022 hit an all time high?
